.

If you're in the area to give our World-Class Fishing a try, stop in to buy your licenses, baits, snacks, and any other equipment you may need.

While you're in the store, sign up for a fishing contest or get live reports on how the fishing is going via local fishing charters currently on Lake Michigan or in the River.  We'll tell you how to get to where the fish are being caught or you can book a hunting or fishing charter while you're here (for both Indiana and Michigan destinations).

You can bet if we have it in stock, it catches fish.  We work with many local charters and most of our baits and lures have been recommended or referred to us by those charters.  And if it works for the charters, it will work for the average fisherman.  You'll also find many of your old favorite lures as well.

An incomplete list of our stock would include rods, reels, spoons, spinners, surface lures, flies, nets, and other accessories.  Live baits such as minnows, crawlers, leaf worms, hooks, sinkers, and swivels are standard fare, but we will also have frozen shrimp for the steelhead and perch runs as well as frozen herring for chinook.

Here is a partial list of some of the baits, lures, and manufacturers you'll find at BJ's.  A complete list of our fishing gear and baits will be available here soon.  Until that time, enjoy the summary of fishing opportunities within an hour's drive of St. Joseph following the list.  Feel free to email us with any questions regarding our fishing selection.

Southwestern Michigan is a fisherman's paradise.  The Port of St. Joseph on Lake Michigan, and the St. Joseph River itself, are known throughout the country as one of the top fishing destinations in the Great Lakes.  Steelhead, brown and lake trout, chinook and coho salmon, walleye, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, and smelt are all available at different times of the year.  And then there are the scores of local inland lakes where you can take musky, pike, walleye, largemouth bass, and all the panfish you can eat.

FOR THE KIDS:  Depending your child's age, you can take them to the St. Joe Piers to catch coho salmon (averaging less than 5 lbs) or yellow perch (loads of fun for the youngsters).  You can also introduce them to smelt-dipping.

All lures and equipment will be available both in-store and online.  However, live baits and other perishables will be available in-store only.
