BJ's has contacted
WNDU on multiple occasions requesting more frequent views of the
pier heads so fishermen, and outdoors enthusiasts in general, can
be informed of Lake conditions, especially wave activity.
The response from WNDU
has been that the cam is intended for the purpose of showing
various weather views. We countered with the fact that 99.9%
of our weather comes from the Lake and, even if it didn't, 99.9%
of the people checking out this webcam, whether from our website
or other access point, would rather see a picture of the Lake and
lighthouse than the buildings, parking lots, and bridges of St.
Joseph and Benton Harbor.
Therefore, if you have any
complaints, compliments, or other comments regarding the view from
this webcam, please direct them to WNDU's General Manager via this
email link. Please be sure to express your reasons for
your comments and your home town so they can get a grasp of the
scope of use we get on this site (we've told WNDU that people up to
two hours away and more use this webcam as a tool to help
determine whether or not they should make the drive to St. Joe at
$4.00-plus per gallon). With any luck, we'll be able to get a more constant
view of the Lake and so have information we need
every day.
NOTE: BJ's is
currently researching the possibility and expense of maintaining
our own webcam of the piers so we won't have to rely on the
generosity of other webmasters.
